“Bhejane” is the Zulu word for Black Rhino.  Frank Carlisle, the owner and founder of Bhejane 4X4 Adventures, grew up in the Southern Cape, studied nature conservation and spent the first part of his working life as a game ranger with Natal Parks Board (now KZN Wildlife).  Frank was based in the world famous Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, the oldest protected area in Africa.  It is in this reserve that the White Rhino was saved from extinction and, at a later stage, similar work was done to preserve Africa’s Black Rhino population.  Frank was fortunate enough to have spent 10 years specialising in rhino conservation and managed a large section of the reserve.  It was here that his passion for rhino was born.  After leaving the formal conservation sector, Frank started his own tourism company, Bhejane 4X4 Adventures.

Petri Cronje joined Bhejane as a junior partner four years ago.  Petri grew up in the Eastern Free State on a cattle and maize farm and brought to the company the warm-hearted and humble attitude that makes our clients love him.  His youth comes with an enormous passion and energy and his speciality is the logistics and day-to-day operations of Bhejane.

Frank, Petri and their families are based in the Garden Route and, when they are not guiding and touring, you will find them surfing.

The company specialises in taking South African families in their own 4X4’s on guided, self-drive adventures into Southern Africa.  The culture of Bhejane 4X4 Adventures comes from Frank’s conservation background and the business strives to give back to conservation in different ways.

Bhejane is also heavily involved in a number of community projects inside and outside of South Africa.
